Scrope Bernard-Morland

Sir Scrope Bernard-Morland, 4th Baronet (1 October 1758 – 18 April 1830) was a British politician.
A younger son of Sir Francis Bernard, 1st Baronet and Amelia Offley, he was born in Pestel Amberg in New Jersey as Scrope Bernard. He was educated at Harrow School in London and Christ Church, Oxford, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1779 and a Master of Arts in 1781. In 1788, he received additionally a Doctor of Civil Laws (DCL). He succeeded to his older brother's baronetcy in 1818.
Bernard-Morland was Private Secretary to the Viceroy of Ireland in 1782 and 1787. He was Secretary to the Commission of Enquiry into Public Offices in 1785 and Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod in Ireland in 1787. Between 1789 and 1803, he was Under-Secretary of State to the Home Department. Bernard-Morland was Member of Parliament (MP) for Aylesbury from 1789 to 1806 and for St Mawes from 1806 to 1830. In May 1789, his name was changed to Scrope Bernard-Tyringham by Royal Licence and to Scrope Bernard-Morland in 1811. Admitted to the College of Advocates in London in November 1789, he became Judge of the Episcopal Court of Durham in 1795. He died, aged 71 and was buried in Kimble in Buckinghamshire.
On 26 July 1785, he married Hannah Morland, daughter of William Morland in St George Hanover Square in London. They had four sons, including Francis Bernard-Morland and Thomas Bernard-Morland.
