Scrivener Dam, in Canberra, Australia, was engineered to withstand a once-in-5,000 years flood. It was built in 1963 across the Molonglo River to create Lake Burley Griffin in the middle of Canberra. It was named in honour of the surveyor Charles Scrivener.
