Scriblist.com is an internet-based collaborative writing project which was established in January 2007. The aim of the project is to create a book (or several books) containing five short stories, each consisting of six chapters. Since each chapter can potentially be written by a different person, the book (or books) will be written by up to thirty different authors.

Scriblist was set up by a group of teachers based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, to give aspiring writers - particularly younger writers - the chance to become published authors.

Other than publishing the completed collaborative writing projects, one of the main aims of Scriblist is to bring together young writers, and for them to critique and thereby improve one another's writing, competitional and non-competitional, in a mutually supportive environment.

Each new book begins by asking writers to submit the first chapter of any story; chapters must be 1500 to 2000 words long.
Members can then Read and Rate each other's chapters, giving marks out of 10, and leaving a comment.
After each submission window follows a Read and Rate week, where no new chapters may be posted, and members simply concentrate on reading and rating one another's chapters.
Towards the end of the Read and Rate week, the Scriblist panel review the highest rated entries, and select five chapters which are well-written, and have the greatest potential to be compelling stories.
After the chosen authors are announced, the next submission window opens, and members then try to write chapters which follow on seamlessly from the chosen chapters.
This process continues until six chapters have been chosen for each story, after which the book is published and available to purchase as soon as possible. (According to the Book 1 timetable, the first book should be published during or around June 2007.)

Another of the website's features is the wikiscrib. This is a wiki-based story which any member can edit or add to. As with any wiki-based project, the aim is that members can edit and improve each other's work, so that the quality of writing is as high as it possibly can be.
