The Scream trilogy is a trilogy of horror films beginning in 1996 and ending in 2000. The series consists of the films Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 3. In all three movies a psychotic serial killer wearing a Halloween costume attempts to kill Sidney Prescott and various other characters involved in her life. Each film begins with the gory murder of a couple and takes off from there leading to the revelation of the killer's identity and the final battle between Sidney and the killer.

The trilogy is one of the most successful horror franchises of all time, all together nationally grossing more than $293 million. In the US Scream grossed $103 million, Scream 2 grossed $101 million, and Scream 3 grossed $89 million.[citation needed]
