While in San Jose playing for the Earthquakes, Scott underwent surgery for compartment syndrome in his calves. Scott never properly recovered from the surgery. His nerves were damaged and Scott was left with the loss of feeling in his legs and feet. Bower, once one of Americas most promising young players and even seen as a regular fixture on the olymic squad before the surgery, saw his career tragically cut short by a doctor's mistake. Understanding the talent lost due to this surgical mistake, the multi-million dollar malpractice lawsuit currently underway certainly makes sense. Hopefully Scott is able to recover more than a fraction of the millions he was sure to earn in his soccer career and more importantly, hopefully Scott has come to terms with the reality of never being able to professionally compete in his true lifelong passion - soccer.
