[edit] Subfamilies
...Fishes of the World recognizes 10 subfamilies with a total of 388 species, while (as of 2003) FishBase follows Eschmeyer and has 3 subfamilies and less than 200 species... The article actually has 21 subfamilies - which authority are we following?
- According to WikiProject Fishes, Fishbase is the authority to follow. If you disagree or want to raise a very valid issue, you may want to consider posting your question on Wikiproject Fishes talk page. If fishbase is off by 188 species, that would certainly be a concern. On the other hand, FOW may have them misclassified. At any rate, you'd probably get an answer there. And by the way, I'd be curious too. Cheers! Jnpet 01:00, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

- I've fixed the article - 25 genera, 200 species - subfamilies should have read genera. There were 4 genera missing. Not too worried about what other authorities are doing if we follow FishBase. GrahamBould
