[edit] History

The SPSO was formed in 2002 by the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman Act 2002, an Act of the Scottish Parliament. The Act replaced three other ombudsman bodies- the Scottish Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, the Local Government Ombudsman for Scotland and the Housing Association Ombudsman for Scotland, merging them together to form the SPSO.

The aim of creating SPSO was to establish a "one stop shop" for compliants about public bodies in Scotland.
