The Scottish League Cup is a football competition open to all Scottish Football League and Scottish Premier League members. At present it is officially known as the CIS Insurance Cup owing to the sponsorship deal in place with Co-operative Insurance. In the past it has been sponsored by Soft Drinks company and current English Football League sponsors Coca-Cola, lager company Skol, and Bell's, the distillery. The competition, like the Scottish Cup, is of straight knockout (single elimination) format, although originally it had 'mini-leagues' leading to a knockout stage, somewhat like the modern-day UEFA Champions League. The cup started in 1947[1] when Rangers beat Aberdeen in the first final.
The competition changed format in 1999, when the semi-finals and final were played in the second half of the season. Therefore, the League Cup was not won by anyone in the calendar year of 1999.
Hibernian are the current holders after defeating Kilmarnock 5-1 at Hampden Park on March 18, 2007.
Currently, the domestic television and radio rights are held by BBC Scotland.

- ^ a b c The 1945-46 competition was not competed for by all clubs, owing to wartime restrictions, and does not usually count towards official records, often being referred to as the 'Southern League Cup'. However, Aberdeen include it on their honour roll.
