Scottish League Challenge Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Scottish League Challenge Cup is a football competition introduced in 1990 to celebrate the centenary of the Scottish Football League. Entry is open to all Scottish League members. Prior to the breakaway of the top teams to form the Scottish Premier League in 1998, entry was open to all Scottish League teams below the Premier Division. Its concept is thus similar (but not the same) in scope as the English Football League Trophy (which is limited to only the English third and fourth divisions)
The competition is of a straightforward knockout format and commences early in the Scottish football season. The final usually takes place in October or November at a neutral stadium (determined based on geographical considerations with regard to the teams involved).
The current holders of the trophy are Ross County, who beat Clyde on penalties after a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park on 12th November 2006.
