Scottish Executive Health Department

The Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD) is a civil service department of the Scottish Executive. SEHD is responsible for the Scottish National Health Service, as well as policies on the development and implementation of health and community care.
The Minister for Health and Community Care is Andy Kerr and he is assisted by the Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care, Lewis Macdonald.[1]

The Department is headed by a Chief Executive, assisted by a Chief Medical Officer. The Department is split into 6 Directorates:
- Nursing
- Service
- Performance Management and Finance
- Health Improvement
- Human Resources
- National Waiting Time Units
As well as responsibility for NHS Scotland, the Department also has resposnbility for:
- Scottish Ambulance Service
- NHS 24
- State Hospital for Scotland and Northern Ireland
- NHS Quality Improvement Scotland
- Health Scotland
