Scott Slapin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scott Slapin is an American violist and composer, recording for Eroica Classical Recordings and Red Mark.

Slapin is the first person to have recorded the complete Bach sonatas and partitas on viola (orig. for violin). He has also commissioned and recorded several new important works for viola including Frank Proto's Three Soundscapes, Richard Lane's Third Viola Sonata and Gerald Busby's Muse for Solo Viola, premiered in Weill Hall (NYC). At the age of eighteen, Slapin was one of the youngest graduates in the history of the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with renowned viola virtuoso Emanuel Vardi.

Slapin and his wife, violist Tanya Solomon, have significantly expanded the repertoire of music for two violas through commissions and recordings, and they have performed throughout North and South America.
