Scott P. Fitzgerald (born November 18, 1979 in Hillingdon, England) is a professional footballer currently playing for Basingstoke Town.
Fitzgerald is a striker who started his career in non-league football at Northwood F.C. before being signed by Championship side Watford in February 2003. At Watford Fitzgerald scored 11 goals in 29 league starts, but fell out of favour and was sent on loan to Swansea, Leyton Orient and Brentford. On his only appearance for Orient, Fitzgerald was sent off for elbowing against Grimsby Town.
Fitzgerald signed permanently for Brentford on transfer deadline day 2005. His goalscoring record at Brentford is impressive, scoring 5 times in 10 league starts. He fell out of favour in the 2005-06 season, being sent out on unproductive loan spells at Oxford United and Walsall. Such was his lack of impact at Walsall that he was released over a month early from a 5 month loan contract in April 2006.
Fitzgerald then spent a month-long loan period at the start of the 2006-07 season at non-league AFC Wimbledon, where he made five first-team starts as short-term cover for injured strikers Richard Butler and Paul Barnes. He returned to the Dons for a second loan spell in November 2006[1], making nine further league appearances, before returning to Brentford in January 2007.
On 15th January 2007, his contract with Brentford was terminated by mutual consent and Fitzgerald signed for Conference South side Basingstoke Town F.C. on a contract running initially until the end of the 2006/7 season. He made his debut for the Dragons on the 20th January in a 1-1 draw away at Yeading.
