Scott Mathieson (born on February 27, 1984 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is a Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect.
He was drafted in the 17th round of the 2002 draft by the Phillies, 509th overall. He made his professional debut in the Gulf Coast League going 0-2 with an ERA of 5.40 in 7 games. In 2003 he went 2-7 with a 5.52 ERA in the GCL. That year he also pitched 6 perfect innings including 7 strikeouts for the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League. In 2004 he pitched for Lakewood of the South Atlantic League going 8-9 with a decent ERA of 4.32 and 112 strikeouts. In 2005 he continued to show improvement. Although he went 3-8 for Clearwater Threshers of the FSL. He had an ERA of 4.14, 118Ks, and only 34 walks in 121 2/3 innings. During the season he also pitched in the Futures Game for the World team. After the season he was rewarded by being named by Baseball America as the Phillies 4th best prospect and their best right-handed pitching prospect.
He made his major league debut on June 17, 2006, losing to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7-2. On September 2nd, Matheison suffered an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery. He is expected to miss the entire 2007 season.
