Scott Brown (born on June 25, 1985 in Dunfermline, Fife) is a professional football player, currently playing for Scottish Premier League club Hibernian.
Brown initially emerged as a temperamental forward player, and picked up many yellow cards during the 2003/2004 season. He has since redefined himself as an imposing attacking midfield player. Brown is a core player in the Hibernian team, and is nicknamed "Broonie" and "Broonaldo" by the Hibs supporters.[citation needed]

[edit] International career
Brown has been capped three times for the Scotland national team, his first cap coming in a friendly against the USA in November 2005. He was then put back into the Under-21 squad for a few squads, although he was added to the full squad for the match with Lithuania in September 2006. He was selected for the full squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine in October 2006, but was not used in either game. He made his competitive debut for Scotland in a Euro 2008 qualifying match against Georgia, coming on as a substitute for Gary Teale. He made his first start in the following match against Italy.
[edit] Injury problems
His progress has been periodically checked by a series of injuries. He missed four months of the 2004/2005 season due to an injury sustained against Celtic, then missed most of the second half of the 2005/2006 season due to a broken leg. This meant that Brown was unavailable for Hibs' Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Edinburgh rivals Hearts. He was able to make a cameo appearance in the last Edinburgh derby of the 2005/2006 season as a substitute, which Hibs won 2-1.
[edit] Future and transfer speculation
Brown handed in a transfer request to the Hibernian assistant manager, Tommy Craig, directly after their home game against Dundee Utd on 2 December 2006. The action was thought to be taken on the advice of Brown's agent Willie McKay. [1]
On 31 January 2007, however, Brown announced that he was retracting his transfer request and was now 'happy' to remain with Hibernian for the duration of his contract (which ends in summer 2009). Despite this, media rumours have continued to suggest that he will move to Rangers in summer 2007, supposedly for a fee in excess of £3M. Former Hibernian teammate Kevin Thomson, who signed for Rangers in January 2007, has spoken with Scott about joining him at Rangers.[2]
[edit] Youth Career
Scott showed promise early on. On top of his flair for the game, his athleticism and desire to win every ball made him a prominent player. He started junior football in the Fife Youth League with clubs including Inverkeithing United and Foulford (pronounced 'Foolford') Royals of Cowdenbeath. Foulford Royals were in fact the east coast feeder club for Glasgow Rangers. Scouts from top Scottish clubs, and those south of Hadrian's Wall, regularly tracked Foulford players from the tender age of thirteen and Scott was doubtless reported on.
Rangers management must be gutted at having to fork out millions for Scott, who was within their ranks before Hibs snatched him away at fourteen to become part of their team for the Pro-League Initiative. Needless to say, that is the ramification for choosing a foreign head coach such as Advocaat who sought to play a European style of football and neglected to nurture young Scottish talent at Rangers. The only exception being Barry Ferguson, albeit a big exception.
