IMDb profile

Scorched is a 2003 independent film starring Alicia Silverstone, Rachael Leigh Cook, Woody Harrelson, and John Cleese. It was a major box office bomb, making approximately $8000 in theatrical release[1].

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Three mischievous employees (Paulo Costanzo, Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone) of a bank in a small deserted town all make plans to rob it at the same time; however, none of them knows about the others. Meanwhile, a clothing store employee (Rachael Leigh Cook) has plans for revenge against a local millionaire (John Cleese). While all of this is going on, Doleman, a jobless loser, is applying for jobs and has very little hope. The film begins with the end of the plot, with Doleman showing up for his first day of work at a local bank that has just been robbed and getting fired instantly for no reason. After that, the film returns to one week earlier, showing the development (and results) of the robbery.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Notable Things

  • The film frequently uses split screen to show multiple scenarios playing out at once.
  • The use of showing still screens of the characters with a small amount of text describing their future at the end is probably a reference to American Graffiti and/or Animal House, both of which ended in similar fashion.
  • The film was a box office bomb. It cost $7 million US, not including marketing, and made approximately $8000 in release[2], 0.001% of its cost.
