The Science Barge is a floating science museum located in the Hudson River Estaury. It is a sustainable urban farm designed by the New York Sun Works Center for Sustainable Engineering. The Science Barge grows crops using a hydroponic greenhouse powered by solar panels, wind turbines, and biofuels. The crops in the greenhouse are irrigated by captured rainwater and desalinated river water. Food is grown without carbon emissions, no agricultural waste is discharged into the watershed and no pesticides are used.

It is presently located on Pier 92, next to a cruise ship terminal, the Circle Line pier, and the the Intrepid, Sea, Air, and Space Museum.

The goal of the Science Barge is to promote the sustainable development of cities around the world. The Science Barge tours New York City's waterfront parks, offering sustainability education program to students and the public. The barge was designed by environmental engineer Dr. Ted Caplow.
