Schmiteye is a name I was given when I was in the Navy. Having a name like "Smith" usually means that everyone calls you "Smitty." The name Schmiteye is the best thing I ever got from being in the Navy. Take a look at the disambiguation related to Wolfman Jack. He and I share a page -- Robert Smith.

[edit] Current behavior

A lot of my editing occurs when I find a particularly annoying problem. My latest quest was to rid articles of a common error. Almost always, when someone writes "the 1960's" for example, they mean "the decade 1960–1969" and not the possessive. We properly redirect these to 1960s, but leaving it intact encourages others to follow suit. I eliminated a bunch that fit this scenario but it is a common error so it will be back. More work for me I guess.

An interesting twist on this problem is when people refer to "the 30's" the redirection is to the 1st century and not the 1930s as one would hope. My concern is that in about 50 years, say 2053, "the fifties" will take on a whole new meaning. So don't use 50's even though the redirection "works" for you now. As one of the people involved in helping to fix the Y2K problem, I want to do what I can to avoid similar issues. See WP:MOSDATE.

I also try to make sure that standard headings are used (WP:MOSHEAD) with proper capitalization. The opening paragraphs of articles tend to be way too long. If the first thing you see is a TOC, then you know right away that something is wrong.

External links are a favorite of mine. I did a lot of work with {imdb} and {memoryalpha} templates. Usually the links are not formatted properly.

And finaly speling. I cn easly fnd enuf mispelngs two keeep mi buzy. I trie too spel chk evry artcle eye edditt.

[edit] Background

Frankly I don't remember my first encounter with Wikipedia. I am sure I stumbled across it doing a Google search. Of course I fell in love right away.

San Francisco Bay Area is home for me. When I was in the Navy I lived in Waikiki and Aiea, Hawaii. I also lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho one cold winter.
