Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is a non-profit, community of university interdisciplinary scholars. It seeks to address what it perceives as anti-Israeli bias or outright anti-Semitism in academia worldwide. It strives for peace in the Middle East addressing what it understands to be both Israel's and her neighbors legitimate peaceful interests.[1]. The organization was founded in 2002 by Dr. Edward Beck , Dr. Judith Jacobson, Columbia University and Dr. Ruth Contreras of Vienna Austria. Members of the Board of Directors have included: Matthias Kuentzel, Ernest Sternberg, Laurie Zoloth, Gerald Steinberg, Phyllis Chesler, Efraim Karsh, Daniel Pipes, Peter Haas, Stanley Dubinsky, John Cohn, Rev.
