Schnitz un knepp

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schnitz und knepp, often spelled schnitz und gnepp, is a staple in the cuisine of the Pennsylvania Dutch. It translates roughly to "(apple) slices and dumplings". The name is derived partially from descriptive terms: something that is "schnitzed" (in the PA German dialect) is cut up finely, such as the thinly sliced apples in this dish. Its main ingredients are dried apples, ham, flour, milk and eggs. The pronunciation is "snitz-en-nep".
