Schlesisches Tor (Berlin U-Bahn)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Schlesisches Tor is an Berlin U-Bahn station located on the U1.
It is located in eastern Kreuzberg, on the western bank of the river Spree. It lies in the heart of the bohème quarter commonly known as SO 36 (after a former postal code). The station is named after one of the southern gates of the city, the road that runs through it leads to Silesia.
During the division of Berlin, the station was the terminus of the U1, as the final station, Warschauer Straße, lay in East Berlin. The link was reopened in 1995. An intermediate station, Stralauer Tor, was destroyed in 1945 and not reopened.
