Schiller (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Schiller is the main project of Christopher von Deylen, a German electronic music composer who produces music which can be considered trance and ambient. Since he himself does not sing on his tracks, he often collaborates with other famous singers in the electronic genre, such as Peter Heppner, Kim Sanders, Maya Saban, miLù, Sarah Brightman, Moya Brennan, or Alexander Veljanov, and musicians like Mike Oldfield.
The name of the band is taken from one of von Deylen's heroes, Friedrich Schiller.
The Weltreise (German for "World Trip") album was inspired by a two-month-long road trip that Deylen took with his father from London to Peking.
Schiller's fourth studio album is entitled Tag Und Nacht (Day And Night). It is released in Germany through Universal Music in mid-fall 2005.
An Excerpt of an Essay about Christopher von Deylen:
"Perhaps this is why he continually reinvents himself with his music. He does not want to sell off just another version of his last number one hit in order to cash in on the money. Don’t bore people, it’s better to surprise them. “I’m still searching for the perfect song. When I compose a song, I hate to release it, because I know that I can do better.” This latent dissatisfaction is his driving force and sends him off to the studio in a rush early in the morning. Switch on the computer, check the equipment, retrieve the emails, scan the messages – only then does he make his first coffee. Von Deylon is very concentrated and disciplined in his work. He is a man who allows himself very few short breaks. Breaks in which he searches for stillness. Where does he find it? “Nowhere, that’s what’s so tragic. Perhaps that’s why my music is sometimes so melancholic.” Once he climbed a mountain in Central Asia, 4000 meters high. “There it was so still that you had to make noises in order not to go crazy.” But isn’t he seeking stillness? “Yes, but perhaps I’ll suddenly find it one day on an intersection in the middle of New York City.” Until then he will remain a seeker, who lets us participate and treats us once in a while to a small piece of inner stillness in his songs."
