Schillaci Stakes

The Schillaci Stakes is a Group 2 Australian thoroughbred horse race held under open weight for age conditions, for horses aged 3 years old and upwards, over a distance of 1000m. It is held at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne during October.
Previously know as the ‘Chirnside Stakes’ it was re-named in 2000 in honour of the former champion sprinter Schillaci.

1970 - 1972 held over 6 furlongs (approx. 1200m)
1973 - 1985 held over 1200m
1986 held over 1219m
1987 held over 1200m
1988 onwards held over 1000m
1970 – 1978 was a Principal Race
1979 onwards Group 2
1970 - 1999 the race was known as the ‘Chirnside Stakes’
2000 onwards the race re-named and known as the ‘Schillaci Stakes’
