Schierke

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schierke is an attractive Harz mountains village, formerly just inside the GDR border. It is a good place to start or finish a walk to the Brocken via the Goetheweg or the Glassmaker's Way. It has both a bus service and a HSB narrow gauge station located about 100 metres higher up the Brocken than the village. It is also the location of the famous granite tor, (30 metres from the railway station), which has a herb liqueur named after it: the Shierker Feuerstein.
