[edit] History
In 1902, Frederick A. Scheel opened the first Scheels store in Sabin, Minnesota. The company later moved to Fargo, North Dakota. Scheels originally was a hardware store, until 1954, when sporting goods were added. Clothing was added in 1972.
In addition to the current Scheels stores in the Midwestern part of the country, the company recently announced plans for a large store in Sparks, Nevada.[1] A new Scheels store recently opened in Fargo. At 196,000 square feet, this store is currently considered to be the world's largest sporting goods store.[2] However, when finished, the Sparks store will be larger.
