[edit] The Schaeffler Brands:
[edit] INA
Dr. Georg Schaeffler, who founded the company with his brother Wilhelm in 1946, developed the needle roller and cage assembly in 1949.
All over the world, INA develops and produces rolling bearings, plain bearings and linear guides for industrial and automotive applications. 1,000 new products are launched every year. INA has invested heavily in research and development, most recently in new R & D centers in Germany, Asia and North America.
INA brand products are used in the Schaeffler Group's automotive division for engine, transmission and chassis applications. And the combined INA / FAG industrial division use these precision products across their four business units; production machinery, power transmission and rail technology, heavy industry, and consumer products.
[edit] FAG
In 1883, Friedrich Fischer designed a ball grinding machine in Schweinfurt Germany, that for the first time, made it possible to produce absolutely round steel balls by grinding. FAG has companies, subsidiaries and sales agencies in all major industrial countries.
Since 2001, FAG has been a part of the Schaeffler Group and has been active in all of the group's divisions - Aerospace, Automotive and Industrial. Together with INA's complimentary product range, FAG has one of the widest product portfolios in the rolling bearing industry, covering nearly all applications in production machinery, power transmission and rail technology, heavy industry and consumer products.
FAG ball and roller bearings are manufactured as standard and special bearings in many designs and sizes with diameters ranging from 3 millimeters to 4.25 meters. Together with INA, FAG offers customer support and services for the diagnosis, maintenance and mounting of rolling bearings and complete systems.
[edit] LuK
LuK supplies systems and components for vehicle drive trains to customers around the world. When Georg and Wilhelm Schaeffler founded LuK in 1965, their objective was to produce diaphragm spring clutches for the successor to the VW Beetle. LuK clutches are used in one of four cars worldwide today.
LuK developed some innovations: The dual-mass flywheel, components for the CVT transmission for high torques, the automation of manual transmissions and high-performance torque converters represent significant contributions to the vehicle of the future. In addition, LuK is an important supplier of pumps for steering columns, chassis and brake systems. Current products include the eco-friendly CO2 air conditioning compressor and the twin clutch, which allows gear shifting without traction forces.
While LuK is responsible for the OEM business, LuK Aftermarket Service is responsible for the entire automotive aftermarket business of the Schaeffler Group. In addition to its own products, the automotive aftermarket also sell brands made by other manufacturers.
To this day Van Duncan owns and runs FAG.
