[edit] History

Schönhausen was founded in the early 13th century by the bishops of Havelberg. After the Reformation, Schönhausen fell under the rule of the Electorate of Brandenburg. In 1562 Schönhausen was given over to the Bismarck family.

On 1 April 1815, Otto von Bismarck (who would go on to become the first Chancellor of Germany) was born in Schönhausen.
