Scentura also known as Scentura Creations is a perfume company based in Atlanta, Georgia. In a court battle with a former distributor, the Illinois Appellate Court ruled that this company was a "pyramid sales scheme..."[1] Nationwide media coverage on the company has tended to be overwhelmingly negative.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Independent distributors recruit salespeople by placing classified advertisements in the employment section of the nespaper under the heading of "Management".[21] Each distributor of perfume must sign an independent contract. Salespeople are sent out from the distribution office, often in pairs, to sell knock-offs of expensive designer perfume door-to-door or in parking lots. News reports state that salespeople have been in trouble with police for soliciting without a permit.[3][6][9][15][16] [19]

Larry Hahn is the founder of Scentura Creations. The company itself began as W.M. Industries Inc. (WMI). WMI was founded in 1975. WMI was a wholesale business which sold products such as luggage, toys and perfume by direct (door to door) sales. Hahn states in a 1984 motivation film that "Fifteen years ago I slept in my car, and I had no finances, I had no education, and I just said one day, if I could hook myself to the proper vehicle to get a break in life and make some money, I would help other people." In 1975, with loans from friends, Hahn purchased his first products, 31 piece sets of bake ware. For several years Hahn trained these recruits himself. By the 1980's there were thousands of distributors. Johnny Whitworth, a distributor of Larry Hahn,[16] left the company to start his own perfume company, World Perfume in Dallas, Texas.
