[edit] Plot

The lead character from the previous two movies, Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris), is currently a television newswoman who begins investigating the deaths surrounding a mysterious videotape and its connection to crop circles appearing on the farm of Tom Logan (Charlie Sheen). The connection eventually leads Campbell to work with the President of the United States (Leslie Nielsen) to stop an alien invasion of Earth.

[edit] Parodies

The plot of the film intertwines parodies of several other films such as:

[edit] Characters

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
  • Cindy Campbell - Cindy (Anna Faris) is now a newswoman, working for The Morning News. Now looking after her deceased sister's orphaned child (Cody), she is determined to find out the connection between crop circles, aliens and a killer video tape. Her quest is foiled by her boss - the show won't allow the news to get out due to the fact that he believes that the only news that should be reported must have to do with sex, violence and the weather.
  • Tom Logan - Tom (Charlie Sheen) is an ex-minister, a widower who lost his wife (played by Denise Richards) in a horrific car accident which is explained later on the film. He, like Mel Gibson's character in the horror film Signs, wakes up to find mysterious patterns in his field (except in this movie it's a rectangle formed by knocked down crops, with some parts of the field left standing to reveal the huge words 'ATTACK HERE' and an arrow pointing to exactly where Tom, George and Tom's daughter are standing to examine the work). A seemingly caring and wise man, he loves his family although he doesn't seem to approve of his brother's intended occupation (a rapper).
  • George Logan - George (Simon Rex) is Tom's brother and an aspiring rapper. A friend of rap club owner Mahalik, he is clumsy, lacks common sense, and is known for unintentionally causing trouble and subsequently (and literally) getting thrown out of places (he accidentally wore a Klan-like hood in the middle of a rap battle and ruined a funeral when he thought that Brenda's cadaver was still alive). George also seems to have some feelings for Cindy and the status of their relationship is a recurring theme in the film. Cody looks up to him as a father figure.
  • Brenda Meeks - Brenda (Regina Hall) was Cindy's aggressive, loud-mouthed best friend who was an elementary schoolteacher. She is one of the first people to have watched the video tape and dies fairly early in the film (much like in the original movie). After her death, Cindy begins to investigate the mystery of the tape.
  • Cody - Cody (Drew Mikuska) is an orphan who has visions of the mysterious force that is at the heart of the killer videocassette. Cody has the amazing ability to end up in a difficult situation and get out of it (in the film, he's hit by a car twice, is blown out of a window, is hit on the head with a shovel, a basketball, and with a baseball bat). He is another one of the people who watches the video tape. His visions also seem to give him the ability to see into the future. In the deleted scenes, Cindy was actually imagining that Cody (and several other characters) existed.
  • Mahalik and CJ - Mahalik (Anthony Anderson) and CJ (Kevin Hart) are the owners of a local rap club. Mahalik is large in appearance while CJ is short and lanky. They are both good friends with George and frequently remind him that "the hood has always got your back." Early on, it is implied that Mahalik may have homoerotic feelings for George Logan but this plot device is gradually decreased as the film progresses (It is later explored again in Scary Movie 4). Mahalik and CJ are also known to argue with each other, often about random, trivial matters such as the differences between rats and mice (see below).

[edit] Cast

In one memorable scene many rappers appeared and a gunfight ensued between them. They were played by:

[edit] Trivia

  • At the start, the video Jenny Mccarthy mentions about the couple having sex and all is Pamela Anderson's own honeymoon videotape with Tommy Lee.
  • The President (Leslie Nielsen) repeats a line from Airplane!, "Just wanted to wish you both good luck...we're all counting on you." That film was co-directed by David Zucker.
  • The first Scary Movie to be rated PG-13. The recurring gags from the previous films are ditched, except the car crash. Although, the scene where Charlie Sheen closes his dying wife's eyes is similar to a deleted scene from Scary Movie 2.
  • This is the first movie in the series without the Wayans brothers. Keenen Ivory Wayans said Scary Movie 2 was the last Scary Movie film. However, this later proved to be incorrect, with the release of this film and Scary Movie 4.
  • The DVD edition includes a director's audio commentary, several deleted scenes and alternative endings (with optional commentary). A "3.5" special DVD was also released, but contained the same material as the original DVD with an unrated version of the film that is largely identical with more scenes.
  • The film is believed to be the only mainstream release film that features three Playboy centrefolds: Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy and Denise Richards.
  • Michael Jackson planned to sue the makers of the movie for defamation, after he thought the movie portrayed him as a child molester (though the character is called "MJ" and only seems interested in sleeping with Charlie Sheen). When he was unable to do so - as parodying someone's image is protected under the First Amendment - the film-makers inserted a more explicit reference in Scary Movie 4, and specifically credited the character as "Michael Jackson."
  • Simon Rex had previously been featured in Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth, a film released around the time of the first Scary Movie that had similar horror film parodies.
  • When Charlie Sheen dangles "Michael Jackson" from the window, he asks, "How do you like it?", referring to an infamous, controversy-stirring photograph of Jackson dangling his newborn son over a balcony.
  • In an alternate scene, Cindy is told Cody doesn't exist, after hitting a few people in the face with a shovel, Cindy tells everybody who isn't real to stand over at a different spot, Cody goes over there, but is followed by Santa.
  • Scary Movie 3 quotes and snippets where featured in the DJ Cryalie track "I Do It For You".
  • One of the scenes that appeared on the Extended DVD named Scary Movie 3.5. and didn't get into the real film was a conversation between two women in the bedroom watching the TV. The scene didn't get in because one woman mentions a "shaved pussy", before picking up a furless kitten.
  • Agent Johnson: God, this is exciting!
President Harris: This is exciting? You should feel my nipples.
This is a reference to a scene in Baseketball with similar dialogue. Both films were directed by David Zucker.

  • (Tabitha, spoofing Samara appears on the TV screen, water pours onto the floor)
    Brenda: Cindy! The TV's leaking!
(Tabitha comes out of Brenda's TV, and pours water out of her ear)
Brenda: Cindy! This bitch is messin' up my floor!
  • CJ: Shit, my Aunt Shaniquah used to live over there! But that bitch got evicted though.
    Mahalik: For what?
    CJ: Mice.
Mahalik: I thought she had rats!
CJ: No, rats are outside, mice are inside.
Mahalik: But what if a mouse goes outside? Does it become a rat? And if a rat is in the house, is it a mouse?
CJ: I ain't seen no mouse outside. That's what I'm sayin'.
    Mahalik: That's because it's a rat, fool!
CJ: Damn! You mighta just made fact. That's some real shit right there! You should be teachin' classes, you state droppin' it!

Mahalik: 'Cause you're alive when you go to sleep.
CJ: You're telling me you can go to bed dead and wake up alive?
Mahalik: You can't go to bed dead! That shit would be redundant.
CJ: No, it wouldn't. 'Cause you can go to bed and not be dead, and you can die but not be in a bed.
Mahalik: But you are in a bed, man. That's how you wake up dead in the first place foo'!
CJ: Damn! That's some quantum shit right there, man!
  • Cindy: I want more than just good sex.
Brenda: Yeah. I know you want commitment.
Cindy No I want great sex.
Brenda: That's what I am talking about. You want a guy who goes like WHAM WHAM WHAM.[In the extended version she adds Then flips you over and goes d-o double g!]
(a little preschooler starts staring at Brenda)
Brenda: Did I say stop drawing?
  • Cindy: Oh, Cody! Are you having one of your visions?
Cody: I see a little girl. With black hair. She wants to kill you. Your period starts in three...two...one...
Cindy: Oww... Cody, what else can you see?
Cody: I see a little boy and a grown woman, but no father...
    Cindy: Oh, Cody...
Cody: I see you kneeling in dog shit...
  • Ross Giggins (reading teleprompter copy that is being typed by the janitor): I been cleanin' after this dumb-ass cracker Giggins for ten years, but I been hittin' it with his woman for twelve. Know what I'm sayin', nigga? She likes her some chocolate. Sharpton for President y'all. I'm outie. Peace.
  • Tom: Sue.
Under the blanket: I can't sleep.
Tom: Well, it's way past your bedtime.
Under the blanket: Wouldn't you want me to sleep in your big strong arms? There's plenty of them under the covers, it's a hot night we don't need to wear pajamas.
Tom: Where's my daughter?
Under the blanket: Are you mad? I am your daughter!
Tom: No, you're not! (Pulls the blanket away, revealing Michael Jackson)
Michael Jackson: AAAAAH!
Tom: Aaaah! Come here! What did you do with Sue?
Michael Jackson: I didn't touch her! I swear!
Tom: I don't believe you.
Michael Jackson: Please, for God's sake, she's a girl!

(Both start fighting, Sue comes in the room, Tom drops "Michael Jackson" down the window tearing his nose off, he goes to his backyard and sees that "Michael Jackson" was really an alien in disguise)
