Scarlet and Black
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Scarlet and Black, usually known as the S&B, is the official college newspaper at Grinnell College. It bills itself as the first college newspaper west of the Mississippi River. The newspaper, typically 16 tabloid pages in length, is published in print and online at the college's webserver. Writing is primarily by students, although occasional letters from alumni or faculty are included. Funding comes from student fees and advertisers.
In the grand tradition of sarcastic college students mangling names to fit their mood, it is also known on campus by other, less noble, names, such as "The Charlatan Hack." Sarcasm doesn't stop at renaming the newspaper, though. Another on campus, though unofficial, newspaper is entitled "The B&S," and features satirical, made-up articles about current events both on and off campus.
