Mickey McGee - the Lough man
Gaelic footballer Mickey McGee has two All-Ireland winner’s medals to his name. He brought the first All-Ireland senior championship medal to Loughmacrory in 2003, the year Tyrone made the breakthrough at county senior level. McGee had already made a name for himself at under 18 level picking up all-Ireland minor medals with the county in 1968 and again in 1999, both years with Mickey Harte of Errigal Ciaran as team manager. From there he progressed to the under 21 grade and again with Harte at the helm he won two all-Ireland under 21 championships playing at full back. He won his first Celtic Cross (All-Ireland medal) as a member of the historic Tyrone team which brought the Sam Maguire Cup (The All-Ireland Winner’s trophy) to Tyrone for the first time in 2003 and again in 2005 when Tyrone beat Kerry in the All-Ireland Final on ..? McGee playing a ‘stormer’ that day at corner back.
Mickey is a Loughmacrory clubman through and through and everyone at the mid Tyrone club is extremely proud of him and his achievements.
