Sayo is one of the 180 woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. This woreda received its name from the old name of its major town, Dembidolo.

Part of the Mirab Welega Zone, Sayo is bordered on the south by the Gambela Region, on the west by Anfillo, on the north by Hawa Welele, and on the east by the Birbir River which separates it from the Illubabor Zone.

Coffee is an important cash crop of this woreda. Over 5,000 hectares is planted with this crop.[1]

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 161,401, of whom 80,662 were males and 80,739 were females; 35,065 or 21.73% of its population are urban dwellers, which is greater than the Zone average of 10.9%. With an estimated area of 1,219.69 square kilometers, Sayo has an estimated population density of 132.3 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 91.7.[2]
