Say Hello to Sunshine is the second album by Finch, released on June 7, 2005. This album signaled a sharp departure from the band's last release, What It Is to Burn. Say Hello to Sunshine introduced a harder sound, with more screaming and virtually no pop-influenced melodies such as earlier songs like "Letters To You". Thus far, the album has received mixed reactions. Some fans have come away deeply disappointed, having been expecting a sound more like their first CD. Others embrace the change, encouraged by the fact that the band isn't afraid to take their music in new directions. The album features much variety in music. Although all songs are played with a standard rock group's instruments, several of them vary in tone and theme. Lead vocalist Nate Barcalow expands his range to near Mike Patton-esque levels, from his typical baritone prevalent on What It Is To Burn to a gentle head voice as well as growls and high pitched shrieks. This also apparently the final album from Finch as less than a year after its release, the band is officially on "indefinite hiatus".

[edit] Trivia

  • There are two b-sides. Oddly enough, you have to buy two different versions of the album to get them both. The Japanese release features the track "Spanish Fly", an acoustic song sung in Spanish. The UK version has the track "Gak 2" a progressive rock sounding number.
  • Track No. 12, "Bitemarks and Bloodstains", was released as a single, and a music video was made for the song.
  • Gak 2, the British B-side featured Chris Tsagakis on drums from labelmates Rx Bandits.
  • The album was originally going to be engineered by Marc Trombino, the engineer of "What It Is to Burn", but like Alex Pappas, he dropped out of the production due to creative differences and pressures from their label, Geffen Records.
  • The band intentionally leaked the album to filesharing networks before its release, announcing so in a MySpace journal entry.
