Sawyer International Airport (IATA: MQTICAO: KSAWFAA LID: SAW) is a commercial and general aviation airport near Gwinn, Michigan on a portion of the former K.I. Sawyer AFB, which closed in September 1995. The airport opened for passenger service in September 1999, serving Marquette, Michigan and the surrounding area. It has a single massive concrete runway, 12,370 x 150 ft., originally designed for B-52 bombers. It is one of the few airports in the United States whose ICAO code is not its IATA code preceded by a K. This is because Marquette was previously served by Marquette County Airport (IATA: MQTICAO: KMQTFAA LID: MQT) which closed in 1999; and SAW is currently the IATA code for Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey.
