Sawara (Japanese: 佐原市; -shi) is a city located in Chiba, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 47,217 and the density of 393.87 persons per km². The total area is 119.88 km².
The city was founded on March 15, 1951.
On March 27, 2006, Sawara and the towns of Omigawa, Yamada and Kurimoto from Katori District merged to form the new city of Katori.
