[edit] Blanking articles

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion is the correct procedure to follow to delete an article. Please let me know if you need any help.

But it would be better to discuss it either in Wikipedia talk:Notice board for India-related topics/Kerala or Wikipedia talk:Notice board for India-related topics before putting it up for deletion. I agree with some of your points, but not all. Tintin (talk) 10:56, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Porotta

I don't have an opinion either way about this article. What I intended to convey by reverting it is that it is not the right way to go about it. Please always try to discuss and give reasons before making drastic changes. If you still feel that the article should not exist, take it to AfD.

Btw, don't be disappointed it you do this and the article doesn't get deleted. One of the problems with Wikipedia is that it can be extremely difficult to get something removed once it gets in. I haven't heard of this S.A.Qudsi and he should a very very minor fellow. But he gets 100 odd hits in google and a mention on two in The Hindu, so people will probably will look at it and choose to keep his article even if you go for AfD. What can certainly be done is to remove/dilute his attempts to promote himself [1].

I don't agree with your opinion on Nadodikkattu. My yardstick for deciding whether a subject related to Kerala deserves an article is to consider whether it will make it to an Malayalam encyclopaedia. If somebody did write an encyclopaedia on Malayalam cinema, I'm sure that Nadodikkattu will have an entry as a hugely successful movie and one of the best in its genre. Similarly, Avalude Ravukal (whether we like it or not) will probably get an entry too (but not any of the other blues). The person who started Avalude Ravukal probably did not have any noble intentions, but that is a different issue.

Re Talk:Mamankam festival, it would be helpful if you can be more specific with comments, and if possible, provide citations. WP:CITE and Wikipedia:Verifiability are considered as official policies in Wikipedia, but Malayalam articles lag badly here because most of them were started by fly by night editors who leave the job of cleaning up their mess to the regular editors, who are very few.

Kochi (India) is a fairly comprehensive work and mostly done by Deepu. Would like to hear your comments about it. Tintin (talk) 01:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

You said in my talk page : thair sadam is sadly missing and there should be collaboration to fix it.
Please don't underestimate Wikipedia. :-))) Tintin (talk) 11:04, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mamankam

Regarding Mamankam festival. Did you live in that period of mamankam? Then how come you know that the article is a blunder? Please refer some books to 'save malayalam' or you may kill malayalam.

Hello SaveMalayalam,

I read your post regarding authenticity of the article Mamankam. The topic is originally a copy from the article Zamorin, if you trace the dates you can find it easly. I just made a link to the topic Mamankam. I dont think its a non wikithing. As other wiki users told you be bold, if you think the topic is wrong contribute yourself. You just rome shouting (Bark) but do nothing. Please backtrack on the articles and you could get some hints, after that just 'Bark'

Either write intelligibly or stop vitiating Wiki with your nonsense, fellow. Your "rome" and "(Bark)" point to your level of thought and language. Wiki is an encylopedia in English language. People like you can only bungle with history and anything else that asks for some intellectual effort. If you copy nonsense, you should face the music. That you made a second hand purchase of the nonsense does not absolve you of ignorance. You probably do not know the meaning of the word bark. Otherwise you should not have written "shouting (Bark)". You could have signed your note. And you could have replied where it was wanted, on the Kerala Talk Page. "Hamilton, Alex. A new Account of the East Indies, Pinkerton's Voyages and Travels, viii. 374", if you could plase refer this. Again I am repeting that I just gave a link of the subject from Zamorin, Without blindly saying 'That is a blunder, this is a blunder' please contribut something, if you think a topic is not correct please remove it and add your own with proof...

[edit] No personal attacks please

I would like to point you towards an official policy on wikipedia : Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia. You are also requested to remain civil. You may debate constructively about the content, but NOT crticise the contributer. Further violation of these policies could result in you being banned from editting on wikipedia. Please maintain Wikiquette. Thank you.-- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK 16:12, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Deepu, You may carefully read the page you linked above. You may also please stop taking it upon yourself to moralise others. There was no personal attack such as could warrant the mention of wikiquette here. Savemalayalam 16:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

No personal attacks? What about this message or this? -- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK05:13, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I am afraid, you are guided by a too naive notion of what is personal, I suppose. The polemic raises some serious issues. I am afraid those whose forte is compiling Yellowpages or collecting trivia cannot see the merit of it. Savemalayalam 05:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

If I may be allowed to lecture a bit, you would gain much more goodwill and respect if you are a little less harsh in your comments. What you say may well be correct, but how quickly they are accepted depends a great deal on how you put them across. Tintin (talk) 05:34, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Tintin, You have a point there, rightly. However, I wonder why people don't find idiocy repulsive. I have been attracted tro Wiki thanks to informative and precise articles on many subjects. But here you see idiocy, more idiocy and still more idiocy. Every man jack who has Internet access thinks he can put something here for the sake of posterity (I am mincing my words). I feel outraged when ignoramuses make history out of hearsay, as has happened in the case of mamankam or zamorin. This has something to do with the abysmal level of academic culture in Kerala. You may have heard about the case of Malayalam Britannica, the most notorious fraud in the history of publication, I suppose. In Kerala, we may be on an an entirely different plain than envisaged by the Wiki's founders and policy makers. I haven't looked at the policy parts thoroughly. I need to. Savemalayalam 08:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I would prefer to avoid commenting about the first half what you said but the lack of books in Malayalam is a real handicap. There are a million sources which discuss whether Shakespeare's books were really his, but it would be a struggle to find a comprehensive source that discusses the same about some of Ezhuthachan's works. There is only so much that amateurs like me can do. While we may be able to improve articles about places or movies, unless some real scholarly guys take interest in Wikipedia, it would be a while before articles on Kerala history or Malayalam literature become real encyclopaediac articles.
