SaveDisney

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SaveDisney.com was a website started by ex-Disney board members Roy E. Disney and Stanley Gold following their departure in November 2003, mainly for the purpose of ousting then CEO Michael Eisner. It often pointed out many of the company's recent mistakes and controversial decisions. On July 8, 2005, Roy E. Disney and the Walt Disney Company ended their feud and he was named Director Emeritus of the Walt Disney Company and the site closed on August 7, 2005. The site was sometimes ridiculed by some Disney fans, saying that the site was just trying to find every way to point out every one of Disney and Eisner's mistakes. The site also spawned several similar sites, such as d-troops.com and saveddisney.com.

Initially the site was very simple. It began with an opening statement signed by Roy Disney.

Welcome to Save Disney.com. This website is devoted to those concerned about the welfare of The Walt Disney Company and its future direction. Stan Gold and I plan to use this site as a central information location as we begin to restore Disney to its position as the preeminent entertainment company in the world. We have also provided a mechanism for all interested parties to provide ideas, comments, concerns and input, and we sincerely hope that you will communicate with us.
I thank you for your concern about this wonderful Company founded by my father and uncle more than 80 years ago whose sole motivation was to provide lasting and wholesome entertainment to people around the world. I seek your support as we embark on this extremely important mission to restore the magic and wonder to The Walt Disney Company.

The site then had links to a resignation letter from Roy Disney to Michael Eisner on November 30, 2003, a resignation letter from Stanley Gold to Board of Directors on December 1, 2003 and a letter from Roy Disney to all cast members on December 3, 2003 followed by the email addresses of Roy Disney and Stan Gold, followed by several links to unofficial Disney fan websites.

The site also had the following disclaimer:
