[edit] History
In 1852, a small trading post was built at the junction of Credit River and the Minnesota River. The landing by the river was later named Hamilton Landing. Over time the area increased in population. In 1865, railroad tracks were first laid down. In 1866, the post office was built. The area was incorporated as Hamilton in 1862. In the 1902, a local man named Marion William Savage purchased a horse named Dan Patch. M.W. Savage promoted his horse prior to races and increased the prominence of the region. In 1904, the townspeople renamed the town after M.W. Savage. This horse in 1906 broke the world pacing mile record at 1 minute and 55 seconds that stood for 54 years.
During World War II, Savage was home to Camp Savage, an MIS language school which taught Japanese to be used in the fight against Japan.
