The Nazario Sauro class are submarines operated by the Italian Navy. All boats were built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone. There are three sub groups:

  • Nazario Sauro class
    • S518 Nazario Sauro - completed 1980 - decommissioned (named after Nazario Sauro),
    • S519 Carlo Fecia di Cossato - completed 1980 - decommissioned - named after Italian World War II submarine commander Carlo Fecia di Cossato [1]
    • S520 Leonardo Da Vinci - completed 1982 - in service (named after Leonardo Da Vinci),
    • S521 Guglielmo Marconi - completed 1982 - decommissioned ? (named after Guglielmo Marconi).
  • Salvatore Pelosi class
    • S522 Salvatore Pelosi - completed 1988 - in service - named after Italian World War II submarine commander and war hero Salvatore Pelosi,
    • 523 Giuliano Prini - completed 1989 - in service - named after Italian World War II submarine commander and war hero Giuliano Prini.
  • Primo Longobardo class
    • S524 Primo Longobardo - completed 1993 - in service - named after Italian World War II submarine commander and war hero Primo Longobardo,
    • S525 Gianfranco Gazzana Priagozzia - completed 1993 - in service - named after Italian World War II submarine commander and war hero Gianfranco Gazzana Priaroggia.
