Thanks :) (I feel like I've been let into some inner sanctum!) The unexpectedly rapid launch of the new Place template has been keeping me busy. Orderinchaos78 23:49, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Jane Brook, Western Australia ... oh dear. :) Love the "middle class" bit. As I said, the randomness of some of our newer Wikipedians never ceases to amuse me. Orderinchaos78 06:22, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
More wikifun - Warnbro is a pristine, beautiful beach but also a hotbed of drug raids and bogans. Obviously whoever wrote it has never been to the western suburbs of Melbourne. :) Orderinchaos78 10:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC) Oh, and after seeing a certain word about four too many times, I wrote a new userbox in the hope of starting a resistance movement. Feel free to pinch or recommend to others :) Orderinchaos 11:50, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wesley College Editing

Last night user SatuSoro deleted information from the page pertaining to Wesley College, Perth WA. He removed information regarding the John Bednall scandal, which was made public in 2002 [1] User SatuSuro deleted further information regarding the David Gee scandal of 2006, which, as a current member of the Wesley Community I can confirm has occurred, but has not been made public to the media.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.224.228.160 (talkcontribs) .

Which is correct please read WP:NOT and WP:NOR Gnangarra 02:12, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Agreed - and also WP:V and WP:BLP. Orderinchaos 02:51, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Agree here also. And no problemo re your comment on my talk. — Moondyne 03:05, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi SatuSuro

I responded to your query on my talk page. Cheers! QazPlm 04:00, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good Stuff

Good to see OZ Hist project up - may you have a long life - wikpedian - and in the real one as well! I have been thinking of starting up an art - Australian Coastal Shipping and Australiuan Maritime History - as everything that can be found on these appear disconnected and not in any systematically connected. What do you think? SatuSuro 06:36, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Another interest I have is related to yours. I would like to see an article written (eventually) for every stretch of coastline in Australia. Covering the geography, recreation, and history (ie shipwrecks). My interest in shipping is immigration into Australia. I have started a few stubs on the early German immigrant vessels into SA, and would like to expand this further. Are you thinking a broad approach or do you have a narrower focus?SauliH 06:43, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
The fact that a number of articles have been written is a sign that the maritime people are out there. A WP would be one way to gather them up and say "ok here's what we do...". I mean heck, if AFL and V8 have WP's then i'd say maritime history is lagging!SauliH 06:55, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Butting in, I think a Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian maritime history (or similar) would be useful thing. You could post a note to Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals to garner some interest. — Moondyne 07:01, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Friday night

I'm ready for another nite of nonsense, I'll poking around on&off also doing these q's. Anyhow time for first coffee. Gnangarra 11:25, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I had noticed the length compared to the other answers, also think its a bit airy-fairy, all fluffy and nice towards the end. Gnangarra 12:02, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SGT

Good idea. I have an Early Days article somewhere called (something along the lines of) "reminiscences of the terrace" which listed all the residents and their addresses up to about 1850. Sir Luke lived at "Elderslie" at no. 18. The Palace site previously housed the Freemasons Hotel (?). I'll see if I can dig it ouit. — Moondyne 16:58, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ports

Sounds like a good idea. — Moondyne 02:40, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Potential for *fd is there, so maybe best to work on a to-do list first, to later go into the project page, assuming it flies. I started a sandbox at User:Moondyne/Australian maritime history. Feel free to expand and add your thoughts. — Moondyne 03:44, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Admin talk page oddity

There did seem to be some vandalism going on at Longhair's page, but by the time I got there it was dealt with. I didn't see any problem with Wesley's page. Hesperian 04:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ziarah

sorry for not responding. I actually thought that article is presenting a very narrow picture, i.e. beliefs of a few people as such beliefs are not entertained in mainstream Islam. Would you like to re-write the sentence or remove it altogether? TruthSpreaderTalk 07:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

Satusuro, for quick responses to talks, diligently watching out for vandals and just generally making me feel cheerful, even in the middle of a revert war, I award you this Kindness Barnstar! — Moondyne 12:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Port H

I can't believe my NPOV edits earlier lasted barely a few days! My fault for not "watching" it - when I went through and did the infobox I added them all to the watchlist so hopefully this sort of thing will happen less often :P There seems to be this sort of rivalry between Broome, Port Hedland and Karratha where all of them feel they're the biggest in the north. Orderinchaos78 12:40, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Or the dreaded NOR vs SOR :) I have in some articles spotted a slight SOR bias (I get to be on both sides as I live north but have worked or studied south for most of my life) Orderinchaos78 12:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I think I'm going to be seeing Roebourne in my sleep after this morning. :| Orderinchaos78 03:57, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] revert war

Smile nothing could match the seriousness of this, And I thought kids squabbled over petty things here is section heading war over "reaction" vs "reaction and critism" Gnangarra 12:42, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Indonesia

Hi, I've written to User:Dtasripin with the below references , hoping that he will honour the truth by revising the Indonesian & Sukarno related articles with a more honest account. The short version is that Sukarno was a self-declared 'nationalist' and the most unpopular of these mostly unsupported people before the war; Sukarno was also calling for Japan to declare war on the US & western powers of the Pacific. Sukarno and the Republic of Indonesia military are legacy of the Pacific war. Thought it would be worthwhile giving you a copy so you can check up at some point if you wish. All the Best. :)

[edit] Maritime History WikiProject

Methinks it is a tactical error asking for permission to go ahead with this. If you're going to do it, just do it. This is Wikipedia after all. I don't recall making a sacrifice to the self-proclaimed WikiProject Gods before I started WP:BANKSIA, and I sure as heck didn't go before the High Court of Stub Creations before I created Banksia-stub. There's no policy that says we have to ask permission to do these things; claims to authority by these approvals boards are just bluff.

Me-also-thinks that I'd better log off and come back when I'm in a less belligerent mood. Hesperian 02:37, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

H. - I think the notice at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals isn't so much to ask for permission, but rather to advertise and seek wider support. I suspect it'll proceed regardless of the response there, subject to other commitments. — Moondyne 02:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Heck I didn't even know about Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals before putting up WP:AH. Just do it.SauliH 03:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Newbieish question

I have found an excellent source for Port Hedland history (assessment documentation, Heritage Council of WA) but don't have the time to add it myself. Where's the best place to raise it as a task so someone else can do it? Orderinchaos 03:26, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

put it here or a link on the article page, I'll have look Gnangarra 03:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
ah cool :) link is [2] ... (p4-5, parts of end of p8-10) - rather heavily focussed on the hospital obviously but some quite solid town history too. cheers Orderinchaos 03:36, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
very nice 4-5 will give a good solid base for the foundation and settlement, will need to look for Hedlands exploration notes if we can find they'll cover the twon through til WWI very nicely. pg 8-9 cover the marble bar- PHE railway as well. Gnangarra 05:03, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Came across this when working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian history/Exploration "In 1627 Gerrit Frederikszoon de Witt on the Vyanen reached the west coast near in vicinity of modern day Port Hedland and followed it to the Montebello Islands, which of course are just north-west of what is now called Dampier." quote from Australia on the Map Project. Thought it might help.SauliH 16:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
that'll be great :) Sorry to bother you guys again but could you also look at Cullacabardee, Western Australia? I've just written it then, and I have a feeling it needs someone who hasn't worked on it to cast an eye over it (more sections will be added later, but when I came to this I thought I was doing a suburb article and ended up in the middle of government documents, highly suspect POV news reports and submissions to inquiries). Feel free to edit as appropriate, I got the articles through my student access to a news search database. Orderinchaos78 09:36, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of volcanoes in Indonesia

Thanks. I still have many things to do there, but this is a plan for WP:FL. :-) — Indon (reply) — 11:51, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I just crossed his RfA from your talk page. I though he is already an administrator. Looking at his nomination page, I bet there's none opposing him. — Indon (reply) — 12:05, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll try later then, but first I have to think the best format for list of Candis. — Indon (reply) — 12:10, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I think you know the subject much better than me. How about filling the materials first, then I'll help with formatting. — Indon (reply) — 13:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hist of Rail Trans in OZ

Thanks. I never did find any good sources for WA branch lines and I didn't focus on the Pilbara raiways. I decided to concentrate on the national and NSW railways, but it would be good to see the gaps filled--Grahamec 13:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fred Chaney

Would you (or anyone else who reads this) happen to know if Fred Chaney, Lord Mayor of Perth 1978-82 was the father or the son? I think it was Fred senior but am not 100% certain. — Moondyne 15:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Deputy President of the Australian Native Titles Tribunal and co-chairman of Reconciliation Australia, Fred Chaney was fathered by Sir Fred Chaney, a senior minister in the Menzies government. His brother is Michael Chaney, former chief executive of Wesfarmers and chairman of the National Australia Bank.[3]
I hope that answers you question Moondyne,
AC Boy 11:41, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More Fred! ...

Hiya again. Only have occasional internet access but I knocked up a draft of a stub of an article relating to Perth. Dropped in to advise you, if interested, of this draft at my user subpage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fred.e/George_Temple_Poole. Regards ... Fred.e 18:39, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gary Lucas article

Hola, I checked the article. It is needy. The link to an album I fixed. There is an album article by that name but not by Gary Lucas. I added a "citation". I have written a couple of music stubs but I am no great writer of music articles. You are right, it needs help. Great to see you back again.--Dakota 18:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 720

Good work, much better. I left a note on at Talk:720 ABC PerthMoondyne 01:38, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Well done! What was 6WN? I thought it was a sister station to 6WF and had something to do with the ABC. — Moondyne 03:58, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Perth

Spoilsport its getting cold in scotland and canada they could do another heated discussion about who's the more notiable. 8) Gnangarra 03:47, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Think that maybe those discussions should get archived so that new people dont startup again in 12 months Gnangarra 03:56, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Developers and their whims

Even worse - ones that never come to be. Check the Duncraig, Western Australia article for info about "Marmion City", which is now a residential estate in Beach Road and Chessell Drive, Duncraig (and previously a Thiess mining lease!) Oh, and Brighton. :D Orderinchaos78 06:51, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for slow replies, am recovering from my own stupidity (I walked from Yanchep to Butler yesterday and while my muscles are fine, my legs got badly sunburnt and are suddenly quite stiff and inflexible :( ) I'll be in the city tomorrow and already have two things (Moondyne's very valid question about the low count of Aboriginals in an 1837 census, plus a couple of newspaper refs) to check at Battye so may look then. Orderinchaos78

[edit] Photo request

I am putting together a gallery of images for Indonesian architecture (some are there already). Do you know of any architectural photos from your travels around wikipedia? I will also be uploading some of mine. Let me know if you can. thanks --Merbabu 09:20, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

re your comments on mass pastings into talk pages I replied on mine. By the way, when i asked you a week or so ago about your opinion on the 65/66 period, I actually meant your opinion on how it is reported in the history section of Indonesia article. That's probably a simpler question than your (or anyone's) opinion of the issue in general. although, that's not to say of course, that I would not be interested in your opinion of the topic in general if offered! lol --Merbabu 08:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Ha ha - yes. Thanks for reminding me about the "tigers" essay, I saw it some time ago but forgot it. The museum is a great metaphor. --Merbabu 09:02, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I've been thinking of what articles we need to cover Indonesian architecture adequately. I was going to list them tomorrow, but since you are going away I will try and bash it together quickly now and give you a link. 30mins. Please keep in mind, that this is more list of subjects, rather than exact headings. stay tuned (if you can). Oh, check out the response to your archiving on Talk:Indonesia. Wow. --Merbabu 10:28, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
OK. I've put a (wish) list together. [4] What do you think? Don't worry, I am going to spend some time yet getting Indonesian architecture up to scratch first in terms of more and better info. --Merbabu 11:22, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My newbie mistakes

Thanks for the feedback. I have read the welcome topics, manual of style, etc.. what did I miss? It appears from your comments that I should be more careful with tags - which ones? Cleanup tags? Was I misunderstanding the CSD criteria? Or doing something wrong with stubs? I just want to make sure I'm making things better, not worse, and not creating extra work for someone else. Thanks for the help. Perel 09:18, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
