[edit] Strahan talk page
I think while this kid is a nuisance, it's not worthy of a block while they stay on the talk page. We want to teach him/her to interact and contribute. I've been watching Davido, Victoria tonight too. We got reference to look up for that one. --Scott Davis Talk 14:25, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Eucla police station
I don't mind a mention of the Eucla police station in one of those articles. I just didn't like it being mentioned the way it was; it just made the Nullarbor Plain article sound like it was saying "You can do anything you like on the plain, but just watch out for the police!" On second thoughts, I can now understand why the police station was important because it was near the WA/SA border, and might have helped to apprehend drug smugglers and the like. Taking this into account, I'll put the line back in the article. Graham/pianoman87 talk 11:41, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- They're doing an amazing job considering their working conditions, if even half the information in this pdf newsletter is still true. Graham/pianoman87 talk 12:07, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
I just wish I could. It's the starkest reminder of how remote Eucla actually is. The bias is just too obvious though. What's it like actually travelling down the Eyre highway? I've heard views ranging from "about the most boring trip possible" to "really interesting". Graham/pianoman87 talk 12:26, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pining in Tasmania
I think I've seen that documentary; it'd certainly make for an interesting article. Ambi 03:42, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Sorell
Heh, yeah. I noticed an anon caught it first though, and reverted Sorell Bakery. I just removed the link from the Sorell, Tasmania article itself. I don't think they are anything to do with the Strahan vandals! -- Chuq 12:00, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Vc etc
I see. Well, sorry about the revert then.
I feel the same way re: how we started off. One of my more embarrassing moments in this place. I'm glad it didn't sour relations between us altogether.
Hey, how's your memory? Can you think of anything important I've missed in article WAY 1979? Snottygobble | Talk 22:39, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re cleaning up
Yeah, there have been some marginal/questionable articles. Lately I've been cleaning out the "category needed" category. I've been mainly focusing on just categorizing them, since it goes faster when "specializing" in the one task, although I do other cleanups on them if it's something simple/quick. Hopefully by at least getting an article into Category:XYZ, someone knowledgable about XYZ will peruse the category and nominate it for deletion if appropriate. Keep on adding those random search cleanup tags; the more articles that are found and get fixed, the better! :-) HollyAm 04:17, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Queenstown
Hi Vcxlor, sorry, I wasn't ignoring your comment. I can see what you meant by including the 'snapshot' section, but generally with 1911 EB references in Wikipedia, the whole article generally isn't quoted as a whole. If you want to use the EB entry to point out the towns former glory as opposed to now, you could just do that with a line such as:
"At the turn of century, Queenstown was one of the [largest/most important] [mining] towns in [Australia/Tasmania], shown by the fact it had an entry in the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica: "Queenstown is [first line of article here]"".
I'm not sure, that might not look right and your way could be better in the end. Maybe just prefacing the section with a line and enclosing the 1911 article in italics? -- Chuq 02:41, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] M. C. Davies
Yeah, my dad had a slight acquaintance with Jeff Austin when the book was being released. He saw it and thought it was beautiful. He was too tight to buy a copy himself, but he suggested I should buy one. I bought a copy and dad got Jeff to sign it for me. It is a beautiful book, especially the maps, but I haven't properly read it yet. The M. C. Davies article was the first time I'd used it in anger. Snottygobble | Talk 05:47, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] ACOTF: Rabbit-proof fence
Hi, I noticed that you've listed yourself as a participant at Wikipedia:WikiProject Perth. As you may or may not know, the current Wikipedia:Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight is rabbit-proof fence. It would be great if we could put a picture of the actual fence up. Just wondering if you are in a position to take such a picture at all?
(Don't feel obliged to reply to this, but if you like you can leave me a note on my Talk page.) cheers -- pfctdayelise 13:46, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Saint Alouarn Islands
I sympathize with you. But in case of an edit conflict, you can always use "back" (left arrow on toolbar) button of your browser, and you'll get back to the stuff you added. In future, make use of {{inuse}} template (Template:inuse) to avoid edit conflicts! Hope you haven't lost your content - make use of back button on your browser now! utcursch | talk 08:31, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Mataram images and maps
Hi - it's not surprising that there wouldn't be much in the way of "accurate" pics of the really early Mataram rulers - though I suppose if there are are widely-circulated portraits, done by psychics or whoever after the fact, they still might be interesting.. As long as we're honest about an image's origins, exact precision doesn't seem important - anything relevant would jazz up the page a little. Anyway, I was just brainstorming, really. Some map help would be very cool, if you have time and are so inclined. I'm thinking I might do a map or two covering most of Java, showing the extent of control of Mataram as well as competing forces, at a few key points in time.. We'll see - I don't have time to do it right now anyway... CDC (talk) 17:48, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Six hungry families etc
Hi Vcxlor,
I hope you're enjoying your wikibreak. I thought of you on the weekend when I was walking the Swan View Tunnel. Any criticism of Six hungry families will be eagerly accepted - I'm not really very happy with the article. Can you clarify your comment about "more fluid"?
Snottygobble | Talk 12:59, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I see what you mean. I agree that the intermarriage of the prominent families is extreme. I tried to capture it a bit at Hamersley family. If "Hamersley family" can be said to include Forrest, Brockman, the Dempsters, etc; then by the same logic the "six hungry families" would consist not of six specific surnames but rather of a single group of people related by birth and marriage who identify as members of those six families. I will have a think about how I can improve the article based on your comments. Snottygobble | Talk 00:10, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Interview request
Hello Vcxlor, First I looked at who did entries for articles. Then I stumbled across the Wikipedians in WA page. Would you like to be interviewed as well? Do you know if there are any women who do the Wikipedia thing in Perth? All the people I have are blokes, and they're very interesting, but it would be nice to have at least one member of the opposite sex... regards, David Cohen dcohen@amnet.net.au 0414 780 441

Thanks for the support. I intend to accept. Snottygobble | Talk 01:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
- And thanks once again for the hyperbole. I shall strive to be one tenth as good an editor as you have made me out to be. Snottygobble | Talk 13:37, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, and I meant to apologise for dragging out into the open an incident that we would both prefer to forget ever happened. I really felt it was the only way to answer the question in good faith. Snottygobble | Talk 11:50, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Excuse me overhearing...
...but I noticed your comment to Limegreen... What is the connection between PCO and sheep (apart from the track "Sheep Dip")? Grutness...wha? 10:55, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- ah - didn't realise one of them was a kiwi - thanks for that. BTW, I see that Gavyn Wright is now doing the orchestration for movies (I think it was Shrek 2 I noticved his name on the credits of). Grutness...wha? 00:35, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Rivalry
Hmm, good point! Although, perhaps instead of a separate article, a paragraph/section in Tasmania would do? -- Chuq 00:33, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Dynasties / Forrest
Nope, sorry. Snottygobble | Talk 03:45, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- No, I have no memory of Crowley's book launch. It looks a bit like the ABC may be guilty of defining the Forrest family rather too narrowly, per our previous discussion. Forrest may be the "great man" but if you're putting together a family tree you would be best off emphasising the ancestry of Margaret instead of John. [edit] suburb maps
Hi vcxlor. Yes I'm not a big fan of those dot maps either eg Broome looks just awful, most of them are difficult to distinguish the coast from the small red dot. I guess they were done in good faith. As for a better idea... I have trouble stringing a few words together, let alone any artistic ability. Perhaps someone else in the group can help out? Hope you enjoy your break. Cheers Nachoman-au 13:41, 28 November 2005 (UTC).
- I came across your conversation and thought you both may be interested in http://www.placeopedia.com/ I've been adding WA articles to it recently and love the way they appear in seconds on Google earth. Probably not ideal for linking from wikipedia itself but for me it's pretty amazing seeing the actual places from satelite pics. Cheers. SeanMack 14:09, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mount Helena vandalism
Not so much generous to them, as still being very conservative and careful in the use of my new powers. Once I've settled in I expect I will be somewhat less so. Snottygobble | Talk 01:02, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hello
I checked what is happening with Esperanza and saw that you are are feeling a bit stressed and I can understand that for I often feel that way too. Please enjoy your break and we hope to see you soon.--Dakota t e 04:34, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- You are welcome. Yes, you are listed on the Esperanza current stress alerts list, with the comment "prolific contributor on wikibreak apparently due to stress".in the "on Wikibreak section"[1]. Thank you.--Dakota t e 15:57, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] OK what's up?
You would revert a catneeded? Something's wrong, you call the lack of a category as vandalism. Back to the rule books I would suggest. Read carefullly! OK - sorry I realise my computer somehow (or wiki) jumps me out of my login, and there I was in number mode with no sig. May I apologise in turn! I sometimes get very hotheaded about the amount of catneeded stuff, and advertisement like arts... Vcxlor
- No trouble. I posted a reply to the talk page of your IP address, User talk:60.230.229.45.

I must say I am impressed by your user page! I may even steal! Unofrtunately some of the clues as to my advanced age are a bit off-putting. My 15 year old is addicted to O game, and when I have the time I could sit hitting random article for years!! vcxlor 00:14, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Lol go ahead and steal - Where d'ya think I got it all from in da first place! ;) You can find more stuff like that at Wikipedia:Userboxes.

- Hey if you liked my user page before take a look at it now! I'm really pleased with this version! It really needs Firefox to render properly tho, IE doesn't display the curves on the boxes.

[edit] Re: Out of it
Okay. Good luck with whatever it is in real life that is keeping away.
Like any good Westralian, I'm inclined to blame the SMH's gaff on an Eastern-states-centric view of Australia. There was also "the night of the stones" in Fremantle 1915. I will do the Kalgoorlie riot article eventually, but right now I'm re-re-re-writing Yagan with a view to getting it up to Wikipedia:Featured article status. I'm finding that the more research I do, the more information I have, the more the facts constraint the narrative, and the worse the article gets! Snottygobble | Talk 22:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- In today's West there's an editorial by Andre Milan relating three race riots: Cronulla 2005, Lambing Flat 1860, and - you guessed it - Kalgoorlie 1934. Maybe its just a coincidence, and maybe I'm getting a big head, but I can't help wondering how he found his angle on that story. Maybe by reading a comment on the Australian Wikipedians' notice board? Snottygobble | Talk 06:08, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Your message
Surprised you noticed my picture is gone. The several vandalisms to my user page yesterday really brought home to me that vandals don't need to know too much. Vandalising my picture was especially upsetting, so that's why it's gone. That is one little they can't do anymore.--Dakota t e 01:39, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
