Satyr (Narnia)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Satyrs are woodland beings in Narnia. They are very similar to fauns but are of an entirely different species. They have red fur, hairy arms, fur over their torsos and very longs horns. They enjoy wine, partying, revelry and dancing. In the animated version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, they are grown men with long white horns, black hair and beards, and brown goat's legs. In the BBC miniseries, the satyrs and fauns are almost indistinguishable except that the satyrs have slightly longer horns and goat's tails whereas the fauns had long tails. In the 2005 film, they appear as anthromorphic goats given human stature. Their weapons in the movie are sickle-swords and long halberds. Like many Narnia people such as dwarfs, naiads, centaurs, dryads and fauns, satyrs are always portrayed as one gender exclusively, being the dwarfs and half human half animal people are male whereas the tree spirits and water spirits are female, and therefore, members of opposite sexes existing in each race is debated. However, if there are female satyrs, they would have hairless arms, faces, and torsos, and shorter horns that are longer than faun horns.
