Sattur is a small town and a municipality in Virudhunagar district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The district has 8 taluks, namely Aruppukkottai, Kariapatti, Rajapalayam, Sattur, Sivakasi, Srivilliputur, Tiruchuli and Virudhunagar.
The town is located in the bank of Vaippar river. Sattur taluk has contents of black soil around the town, suitable for crop cultivation. The town lies in NH7 and has very good road and railway connectivity.

The town is famous for its Fountain Pen Nib manufacturing industries as it is the only place in India where pen nibs are manufactured for a long time. The town also has many other small scale cottage industries like printing presses, fire works.
The matches manufacturers contribute to siginificant number of working class population.export quality safety matches and domestic matches are being manufactured in the town.
There are many famous Timber depot and Raw material suppliers for the Match factory and Fireworks.
The Match frames(a collection of wood strip which holds individual match sticks), Rack(a Stack holding the individual frames), and various other necessary materials for Match factory are supplied for years by the Leading business people. These materials are also supplied to various other parts of Tamil nadu and the Basic raw material is Wood log which is being received from Tenkasi, Nagerkovil and Kerala .
A type chillies grown in sattur called sattur sanam s4 is one of two chilli variety of tamilnadu along with ramnad mundu is well known out side tamilnadu and india.
The town is well connected with the neighboring villages through buses.and sattur is connected with major cities through the railway.as the railway station is located well inside the town. the nearest airport being madurai and nearest sea port harbour being tuticorin.

In sports sattur town has very good football,cricket,basketball, volley ball,hockey,badmiton fields in sattur hindu nadar schools with a stadium capacity of 2000 persons to host district level tournaments. sattur has produced many fascinating players in south tamilnadu zone comprising nine sothern districts of tamilnadu.

Sattur is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 56 metres (183 feet). Sattur is located between two rivers vaippar and Uppodai. Has all basic needs. Such as Banks, Railway station, Police Station, Government Hospital, Post Office, ATM, Schools, Colleges, Bus stand, etc.. Sattur is one of the place for MLA seat among 234 seats in Tamil nadu. It has some historical temples in and around. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu temples are in sattur which have histiorical stories. Around sattur " irrukangudi and Oodaipatti" are some notable place with temples of "Godess Mariamman and Lord Vinayagar" respectively.
