Sat Mahajan

Sat Mahajan is the Rural Development minister of Himachal Pradesh. He was born on 27 July 1927 at Nurpur, District Kangra. He is a political and a social worker.
He was the Secretary of Current Affairs Society during his college years. He is the President of Nurpur Municipal Committee for 5 consecutive terms. He is the founder member of Indian Youth Congress. He has represented Indian National Congress as one of the member delegation in the International Socialist Conference held in Purtgal at Lisbon. He is the President of- District Congress Committee, Kangra and Pradesh Congress Committee for 3 terms.
He visited Russia on Indo-Soviet Friendship Mission. He also represented the country in United Nations as a member of parliamentary delegation. He is honoured with Vaikunth Bhai Mehta Award by Co-operative Sector on 31 March 2003 in Delhi. He got elected to State Legislative Assembly first in 1977 and then again in 1982, 1985, 1993 and in 2003. He also remained MLA from Kangra Parliamentary Constituency from 1996 to 1998. He was the Revenue Minister (at Cabinet Rank) from May 1980 till January 1985. He was also the Transport Minister (of Cabinet Rank) from 1985 till 1990. He was the Chairman of Committee on Estimates from 1994 to 1995 and Rural Development Minister (at Cabinet Rank) from 6 March 2003 onwards.[1]
