Saroki

Saroki is a village located in Gujrat in Pakistan on the Sargodha road just before a small town called Kunjah. With an average population of 10,000 the towns main source of income is farming it is located on the bank of the canal upper jehlum which runs into the Power House in Shadiwal.

Saroki is well known for the Darbar ( Shrine) of Pir Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah who migrated here from his native village Mangowal. He was known as a spiritual saint with great influence in the surrounding villages. He hails from the family of Hafiz Syed Abdul Rahim Shah of Mangowal and contributed immensely to the spread of Islam from the late 1800's to around 1947 when he died.

He was succeeded bySyed Arif Hussain Shah who rendered great services to the local population in the fields of religion, medicine, politics and social justice. He died in 1998 and his son Syed Jaffer Hussain Shah became the sajjada nasheen. He is also the present sajjada nasheen.

Other prominent members of the family are Syed Fiaz Hussain Shah who is the younger brother of Syed Arif Hussain. Having spent most of his life in the UK he has now returned to Pakistan. His son Syed Hassan Riaz who is a Barrister from Lincoln's Inn and one of a handful of Barristers from the Gujrat region, practices Law in Pakistan. His other son Syed Ali Aurazee who qualified as an Engineer from the University of London currently works in real estate construction in Pakistan and the UK.

Many of Saroki's residents are now working in the Uk, Europe, United States, Dubai and the Far East. Apart from producing rice, the village is known for processing leather hides. Local personalities have included, Chaudhry Ghulam Qadir (marhoom) , Muhammad Sharik ( Ex Nazim) and Chaudry Akhtar Sarkana.
