Sark (planet)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sark is a planet in Isaac Asimov's Foundation universe, featureded in the novel The Currents of Space.

Sark is mostly known as the colonial ruler of the enslaved planet Florina, where oppressed peasants grow the crop called kyrt. This makes it the second-richest planet in the galaxy at the time of the novel, exceeded only by Trantor. It is also a potential centre of resistance to Trantor becoming an actual Galactic Empire.

Sark has been settled relatively recently, a thousand years ago from nearby older worlds. Five hundred years ago, it noticed the potential of Florina and established solid control.[1]

Sark also features in the 'Second Foundation' triology, a series of novels authorised by the estate of Isaac Asimov as a 'Renaissance World' - locations of dangerous outbreaks of Chaos which will eventually destabalised the Galactic Empire to the point of collapse.
