Sarge is an anthropomorphic jeep, appearing in Pixar's animated feature 2006 film Cars, voiced by Paul Dooley. Sarge's full name (rarely used) is 'Sarge Armyson'. A veteran with a military green paint job, he appears to be a cross between a Willys MB and a Willys CJ-2A. He bears a slightly stylized Sergeant Major (E-9) insignia on his sides. Living in Radiator Springs, a quiet town on Route 66, next door to Fillmore, he runs a surplus store, named "Sarge's Surplus Hut" and mows his lawn twice daily.

At the end of the film, he runs an SUV boot camp, called "Sarge's SUV Boot Camp", where he is briefly seen bickering with a poser Hummer H2 that has never actually been off-road. The boot camp has an assault course, as seen in the video game.

Every morning, he wakes up to Reveille, then salutes the American Flag. This ritual is nearly always drowned out by Jimi Hendrix's Star-Spangled Banner, playing from Fillmore's house. The resulting argument always goes as follows:

  • Sarge: Will you turn that disrespectful junk off?!
  • Fillmore: Respect the classics, man. It's Hendrix!

But the second time they do it it's this:

  • Sarge: Will you turn that disrespectful junk off?!
  • Fillmore: Respect the classics, man.

Sarge is the second-rarest car in Mattel's die-cast lineup because of low shipments and the eagerness of collectors wanting a Willys Jeep character.

[edit] Trivia

  • Both Sarge and Fillmore were the earliest characters created for Cars. Precursors to both characters were in Yellow Car, the original concept short for Cars, in which an electric car tries to live in a gas-guzzling world.
  • Sarge's license plate number is 41WW2, a reference to World War II, which the U.S. entered in 1941 but it is not seen in the videogame.
  • He has the number 984673 painted on both sides of his hood.
This emblem is very similar to the one that appears on Sarge's side.
