The school currently has over 2,600 students with over 125 teachers and faculty. The campus is over 85 acres, featuring 4 classroom buildings, 2 cafeterias, 2 gymnasiums, and multiple athletic fields. Many of the school's teachers and programs are nationally renowned. Examples include:

  • Teacher Doug Gilliland's Physical Science Series, a series of Hyperstudio programs written for Physical Science classes.
  • The Army JROTC "Bulldog Battalion" has been a Honor Unit with Distinction (top 4% in the nation compared to other Army JROTC programs) since the mid 1980's.
  • The baseball team has two national titles('89 & '94) and seven state titles('57, '73, '87, '89, '93, '94, & '96) and were state runner-up three times('88, '00, & '06).

School officials always denied any connection of the two events. This was always met with extreme scepticism by the student body.

[edit] Block Scheduling

  • Sarasota High School was planned to move from standard scheduling to block scheduling in the 2006-2007 school year. However, after much criticism and concern from the parents of many students, school officials decided to delay the implementation of block schedule until the 2007-2008 school year.
