Sarah Ioannides
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sarah Ioannides (b. 1972) is currently Music Director and Conductor of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra (EPSO). Maestra Ioannides was born in Australia but received her musical training in England. Her parents are Scottish and Greek Cypriot; her father currently pursues his musical career in Germany. Her instruments include piano, horn, and especially violin, for which she was admitted to Oxford, where she received an M.A. After receiving a M.M. in Conducting from Juilliard, Ioannides was assistant conductor to Tan Dun and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
After the resignation of Maestro Gurer Aykal as Music Director and Conductor of EPSO, a call for a replacement resulted in 300 applicants and the audition of seven. Ioannides' audition began with John Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Jan Sandstrom's Short Ride on a Motorbike, and ended with Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique.
On the strength of that audition, Maestra Sarah Ioannides will begin the 75th season of EPSO.
