Sara Ruiz Chávez

Sara Latife Ruiz Chávez (b. 1976 in Cozumel, Quintana Roo) is a Mexican politician affiliated to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

Ruiz Chávez began her political career in her native Cozumel serving in the public administration of the Municipality of Cozumel; then she served in the cabinet of Joaquín Hendricks and Félix González Canto. In 2006 she won a seat in the lower house of the Mexican Congress to serve during the LX Legislature.

In 2007 she ran for General Secretary of the National Executive Council (2nd most important ranking position within the PRI) but lost (She and Enrique Jackson) against Beatriz Paredes.

In January 2007 the reforma newspaper brought to public attention that Ruiz Chávez owned a Strip club in Cozumel; some of Ruiz Chávez opponents used that information to attacked her in the frame of the 2007 PRI internal elections.
