Saoner

Saoner is small town in Nagpur district of Maharashtra in India. It is 36 km from district headquarters. It is well connected to Nagpur by road and rail. The rail link is of narrow gauge type, one can enjoy this one hour ride in small train. Local language is Marathi but few people also speak Hindi. Pola(Festival of Bullocks) and Holi are main festivals of this area. Summer months are very hot (45 degrees Celsius) and winter is moderate. This small town is famous for its Coal mines, textile and paper industry. Primary occupation of people is farming, nearly 65% people are engaged in growing Oranges on 80% available nearby land. Saoner is located on the bank of River Kolar. Famous Marathi writers Ram Ganesh Gadkari and Prof. Bhaskar Nandanwar belong to this place. This place is also of historic importance due to its role in 1942 revolution against British. Most of the Bridges and Governmemt building were built by British in late 1930.
